Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner just announced that a supermarket will be proposed to replace the movie theater on Saw Mill River Road. The developer is scheduled to make a presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at a work session with Feiner and members of the City Council.

Feiner said that “residents have asked for another supermarket for many years so I think that this will be good news for many people. However, some neighbors may have questions. This presentation will be the first opportunity for Town Board members to ask questions of the applicant.”

Once the application is filed, it will be reviewed by town staff, undergo a traffic review, and be referred to the Planning Board before a public hearing with the Town Board. It will also require site plan approval and a steep slope permit from the Planning Board.

The applicant plans to redevelop the site, maintaining the current driveway along Saw Mill River Road and the existing Taco Bell. Feiner said the proposed supermarket would be combined in a building that additionally includes other complementing retail uses.

“The proposed mix of uses would represent a significant addition of part and full-time employment opportunities in the town,” he said. It has not been revealed what company will replace the multiplex, though there has been speculation of a Walmart or similar wholesaler.
